Today is Veterans Day, a federal holiday in the United States which takes place every year on November 11th. This date is in honor of the "eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" in 1918 which marked the end of World War One. At first, this holiday was known as Armistice Day until 1954 when President Eisenhower officially changed the name of the holiday to Veterans Day. We take this opportunity each year to thank and honor those who have served our country. Today, students will be viewing a Veterans Day commemorative program during period 6. Additionally, Veterans from our local community, including representatives from the Patriotic Commission and American Legion, will be visiting social studies classes today. To our special guests, we say thank you for your service and for visiting South Windsor High School.
